Iron Infusion Therapy
Iron infusion therapy restores iron levels when oral supplements are not effective or tolerated, or when iron deficiency is more severe. At Livstil Wellness in Langley, BC, we offer two types of IV iron: Iron Sucrose (Venofer) and Iron Ferric Derisomaltose (Monoferric).
Iron Sucrose (Venofer)
- • Raises ferritin 10–15 µg/L per 100mg dose
- • Given in 100–300mg increments
- • Multiple smaller infusions for gradual restoration
Iron Ferric Derisomaltose (Monoferric)
- • Increases ferritin 100–150 µg/L
- • Can be given as a single IV infusion
- • Convenient one-visit option for significant iron restoration
Indications for Iron Infusion
Required Lab Testing
Iron studies should be repeated 4–6 months post-infusions.
What to Expect
Sessions last 45–90 minutes, with 1–3 sessions needed. Improvement is typically noticed within 1–3 weeks: rapid iron/ferritin increase, improved energy, and better oxygen delivery and exercise tolerance.
Safety
Generally well-tolerated. Mild side effects may include temporary fatigue, headache, mild low blood pressure, or palpitations. Fishbane reaction (rapid flushing, chest tightness) may occur at start but resolves within 1–2 minutes.
